Who saw this coming? Nintendo has launched a new interactive alarm clock, the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, alongside a secretive Switch Online playtest.

The Alarmo's unique feature is its motion-sensing technology. It won't stop its insistent alarm call until you fully leave your bed, rewarding your effort with a "victory fanfare." A gentle hand wave will only temporarily quiet the alarm; prolonged slumber will only increase its volume.

Setting the alarm is straightforward: choose a game, select a scene, set your wake-up time, and let Alarmo do the rest.

Utilizing a radio wave sensor, the Alarmo measures your distance and movement speed without the need for video recording, prioritizing user privacy. According to developer Tetsuya Akama, this technology allows for detection of even subtle movements, even in darkness or with obstacles present.

Early Access and Retail Availability

Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada can get early access to the Alarmo via the My Nintendo Store for a limited time. The Nintendo New York store will also offer in-person purchases at launch.

Nintendo Switch Online Playtest: What's the Mystery?

Applications Open October 10!

Nintendo has also unveiled a Switch Online playtest, open for applications from October 10th (8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET) to October 15th (7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET). Up to 10,000 participants will be chosen, with those outside Japan selected on a first-come, first-served basis. The playtest itself runs from October 23rd to November 5th.

To apply, you must:

⚫︎ Have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT. ⚫︎ Be at least 18 years old by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT. ⚫︎ Have a Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain.
