NieR: Automata - Where To Get Filler Metal
Obtaining Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide
Acquiring certain upgrade materials in NieR: Automata proves more challenging than others. Many drop from defeated enemies, but some, like Filler Metal, appear randomly in the overworld. This inherent randomness makes farming these items a test of patience.
This guide details two methods for obtaining Filler Metal: finding it in the Factory and purchasing it in the Amusement Park.
Where to Find Filler Metal in NieR: Automata
Filler Metal is a rare drop from item spawns deep within the Factory. Its location varies with each playthrough, and its spawn rate is lower than other items. Accessing the Factory: Hanger access point via fast travel is recommended, as it provides a convenient starting point. Note that you may need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progress.
While increased movement speed can slightly improve farming efficiency, reliably farming Filler Metal remains impossible. Your best strategy is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawning items. However, purchasing it is a more efficient, albeit expensive, alternative.
Where to Buy Filler Metal in NieR: Automata
Filler Metal is exclusively sold by the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park, but only after completing one of the game's final endings (requiring all three playthroughs). Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after completing the game will unlock Filler Metal in its inventory at a cost of 11,250 G per unit.
Despite the high price, purchasing Filler Metal is significantly more reliable than repeatedly scouring the Factory. Considering the necessity of Filler Metal for Pod upgrades to overcome the high-level enemies encountered later in the game, this method may prove more practical.
