"Netflix Stories Cancelled, Yet Playable!"
Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, signaling the end of a brief but intriguing foray into narrative gaming. The decision to cancel Netflix Stories might come as a surprise to many, considering the series boasted a robust player base. So, what led to this unexpected move? Let’s delve into the details!
The news, first reported by Variety, is part of a larger strategic pivot at Netflix Games. The company is shifting its focus towards developing mobile titles that cater to party games, children's games, mainstream releases, and other interactive experiences designed for TV play.
Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, including the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.
Netflix Stories Gets Cancelled, So Is It Shutting Down?
Despite facing some criticism, the Netflix Stories games consistently ranked high among the most-played titles on Netflix Games. Recent reports show it holding the fourth spot in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which ranks games based on playtime rather than downloads.
As for the future of the series, Love Is Blind: NYC will be the last interactive title released under the Netflix Stories banner. Once its rollout concludes, no new games will be developed in this series. This announcement comes shortly after the Netflix Stories app teased its next game, The Love Contract, initially slated for an April 8th release.
The Love Contract was unique as it wasn't based on any existing Netflix IP. Instead, it was an original romance story featuring an actress navigating a love triangle between a Hollywood star and a billionaire amidst fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has now been scrapped.
While new developments in the Netflix Stories series have been halted, existing games will remain accessible. Fans can continue to enjoy titles such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple. However, planned sequels like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have also been cancelled.
That's the full story on the cancellation of Netflix Stories! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, be sure to check out the existing games on the Google Play Store.
