Player First Games announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, concluding on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the shutdown in a blog post.

Online play will cease on May 30th, but offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain available via local and training modes. The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to players and supporters in a statement.

It's been an incredible ride, MVPs. Thank you for all the support. For more details, please visit our blog post https://t.co/tLVzpA9JaQ and FAQ https://t.co/XKuxAnd26j. pic.twitter.com/VLzBDbP0GQ

Real-money transactions are now unavailable, but Gleamium and character tokens can be used until the May 30th deadline. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.

MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million total for the games sector. This follows other financial setbacks including the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.

CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels cited MultiVersus as a primary factor in the company's financial difficulties during a November call.

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will introduce new characters: Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass), alongside typical seasonal content. This final season will mark a bittersweet end to the free-to-play title, just days shy of its first anniversary.
