One of Stardew Valley's greatest charms is the diverse range of animals you can keep on your farm. This guide details how to acquire multiple pets, expanding your homestead beyond a single furry or feathered friend.
Unlocking the Multi-Pet Potential:

This involves daily care: fill their water bowl (except on rainy or snowy days) and pet them daily (indicated by a heart bubble). Monitor their friendship level in the "Animals" tab of your pause menu.
Once their friendship meter is full, Marnie will send a letter informing you of additional pets available at her shop. If you didn't adopt a pet in your first year, she'll send this letter at the start of Year 2.

You'll find a selection of 12 pet licenses: five cat variations, five dog variations, and two turtle types. Each license comes with a cost:
