Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its upcoming first-person shooter (FPS) game, Deadrop.

In an X post, the studio stated, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The announcement also included a plea for job opportunities for its now-unemployed team members.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn DelHoyo (Halo). Deadrop, their flagship free-to-play FPS title, aimed to leverage the team's extensive experience. While initially targeting a 2024 release, the game ultimately failed to meet its launch window.

Following Dr. Disrespect's departure from the studio in 2024 after a controversy involving inappropriate messages sent to a minor via Twitch Whispers, Midnight Society continued development on Deadrop until its recent termination.

Deadrop was envisioned within a unique, retro-futuristic setting described as "the 80s never ended." Promotional materials depicted characters sporting Daft Punk-inspired helmets and wielding a mix of firearms and melee weapons. The gameplay was planned as a PvPvE extraction shooter.

The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of game studios facing financial difficulties and workforce reductions. This challenging climate has already impacted major players such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs, among others.
