Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal
Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The initial announcement, detailed in Dev Talk 10, proposed a system that would demote players four divisions every 45 days. This sparked widespread criticism from the community, who argued the system was discouraging and detrimental to progression.
In a swift response, Dev Talk 11 announced a complete reversal of the mid-season reset plan. Players will now retain their ranks and scores from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season reset, resulting in a six-division demotion, remains in place.
New Heroes and Continued Updates
Despite the rank reset retraction, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated release of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track. NetEase Games' commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season remains unchanged.
Reward structures for high-ranking players also remain consistent. Players achieving Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including costumes and Crests of Honor, will be awarded at the end of the season for reaching Gold and Grandmaster ranks respectively. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
Community Response and Developer Acknowledgement
Marvel Rivals' rapid response to player feedback was widely praised. Within hours of the initial Dev Talk 10 announcement, the developer addressed concerns and released Dev Talk 11 with the reversal.
The developers emphasized their commitment to community feedback, stating their dedication to creating the best possible game experience. The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
