Marvel Rivals Players Are Risking Account Bans to Mod the Game Even After Season 1 Clampdown

Author : Adam Feb 19,2025

Despite a Season 1 crackdown, Marvel Rivals players continue to risk account bans by using mods. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized characters with mods, transforming Iron Man into Vegeta, Mantis into a goth, and even Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita.

NetEase, the developer, implemented asset hash checking to restrict mods, reiterating that their terms of service prohibit mods, cheats, and other unauthorized third-party software. They warned players of potential bans, stating that modifying game files is not recommended.

However, a workaround has emerged, making modding more complex but still accessible to many PC players. Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users about the risk of bans, noting that while permanent bans haven't been observed, NetEase could still take action.

New mods, leveraging the addition of the Fantastic Four, have already appeared. One mod, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, boasts over 5,000 downloads in just two days.

The potential for bans remains a concern. While no confirmed bans for mod usage have surfaced yet, the workaround's widespread adoption might prompt NetEase to act. Reasons for NetEase's stance include potential revenue loss from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, gameplay imbalance, and potential performance issues. Prafit even advises that their workaround requires a high-performance PC.
