Excitement is building for Mario Kart World, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive game set to launch alongside the new console on June 5. This isn't just another racing game; Mario Kart World is an expansive open-world adventure, inviting players to explore the vast landscapes of the Mushroom Kingdom with a roster of beloved characters and a variety of vehicles. You can secure your copy now by preordering from various retailers, such as Walmart.

Preorder Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World is available for preorder at:

  • $79.99 at Target
  • $79.00 at Walmart
  • $79.99 at Best Buy
  • $79.99 at GameStop

Unlike many modern video games, Mario Kart World comes in a single edition. You can purchase it standalone for $79.99 or opt for the bundle with the Nintendo Switch 2 console for $499.99.

Switch 2 Super Mario Kart World Bundle

The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle is available for $499.99 at Best Buy. Choosing this bundle saves you $30 compared to buying the console and game separately. Keep in mind, the bundle includes a digital copy of the game, so you won't receive a physical cartridge or game box. If a physical copy is a must-have for you, consider spending the extra $30 on the standalone game.

Yes, the MSRP Is $79.99

When purchased on its own, Mario Kart World is priced at $79.99, which is $10 more than the standard price for AAA titles on PlayStation and Xbox this generation. While I'm not thrilled about the price increase between console generations, I understand that game development costs have soared. Hopefully, the expansive nature of Mario Kart World justifies the higher price tag.

What Is Mario Kart World?

Play

Mario Kart World is poised to be the most ambitious Mario Kart game to date, featuring an open-world environment reminiscent of the Forza Horizon series. In Grand Prix mode, you can seamlessly transition from one race to the next across the expansive world. The game's tracks are dynamically affected by weather and time of day, influencing visibility and traction. You're not confined to the tracks either; Nintendo promises you can drive "virtually everywhere" within the game's world. Each race accommodates up to 24 drivers, a significant increase from previous entries.

A new mode, Knockout Tour, challenges you to race across the open world, hitting checkpoints with specific placement requirements. Fall behind, and you're out of the race. For a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode lets you explore at your own pace, team up with friends, and capture memorable moments with in-game photography.

More details about Mario Kart World will be revealed during the Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for a deeper look into what the game has to offer.
