Iconic Voice Actor Shares Message Post-Recovery
Beloved Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and numerous other titles, has shared a moving message following a near-fatal incident. Last week, he was found "barely alive" in his Atlanta hotel room.
A GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised a remarkable $174,653 for his medical expenses and outstanding bills, features a video message from Johnson himself. He reveals he was in a coma.
"I've discovered an overwhelming amount of love in this world, far more than I ever realized," Johnson shared. "I'm deeply grateful to each and every one of you."
The acclaimed voice actor and Washington Capitals announcer was in Atlanta for a National Alzheimer's Foundation benefit event. However, after arriving and checking into his hotel, he failed to appear. His wife, Kim Johnson, contacted the hotel, leading to security intervention and the arrival of emergency medical technicians who found him with a barely detectable pulse.
"The rumors of my demise were slightly exaggerated," Johnson stated with characteristic humor. "It was incredibly close, but I'm still here. My wife's quick thinking in calling the hotel, along with my son contacting security, saved my life. They rushed me to the hospital, and I was placed in a medically induced coma for five days. It was through the GoFundMe, organized by my dear friends Bill Glasser, Shari Elliker, and Kim, that I learned of the outpouring of support."
Johnson expressed his gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for supporting his family, to Ted Leonsis (chairman of the Washington Capitals' parent company) for a generous $25,000 donation, and to Glasser and Elliker for their tireless efforts. He also extended heartfelt thanks to Bethesda, who publicly voiced their support, stating, "You say I'm your friend. I am, and always will be. I love you guys." Finally, he addressed his fans, both donors and those offering support in other ways: "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere."
"Recovery will take time," Johnson concluded, "but I'm coming back. I look forward to connecting with you all again soon. Cheers."
Beyond his extensive video game work with Bethesda, Johnson boasts a diverse career in film and television. His most recent video game role was Ron Hope in Starfield. His impressive Bethesda repertoire also includes Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance (Oblivion), three Daedric Princes (Morrowind), Fawkes and Maister Burke (Fallout 3), Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II (Skyrim), and Moe Cronin (Fallout 4), among many others.
