In Hyper Light Breaker, your choice of weapon can significantly impact your gameplay, and no build is complete without a solid one. Every player starts with basic loadouts, but as you dive deeper into the game, you'll discover equipment that aligns perfectly with your preferred playstyle.

Hyper Light Breaker combines elements of roguelikes and extraction games, which means the mechanics for acquiring new weapons are unique. Here’s everything you need to know about obtaining new weapons in Hyper Light Breaker.

Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker

The primary way to acquire new gear is by exploring Overgrowths. While you'll naturally come across new items as you explore during a run, if you're specifically after weapons, look for the sword or pistol icons on the map, which indicate Blades and Rails, respectively.

Blades are your melee weapons, each offering unique movesets and special abilities. Rails, on the other hand, are your ranged weapons with varying functions that set them apart from one another. Both types of weapons can come in different rarities, with gold being the rarest. As with any loot-based game, rarer items boast better stats.

When you find a weapon in an Overgrowth, you can send it directly to your personal stash by pressing the Cache button instead of Equip. Later, you can equip these weapons for your next run by adjusting your loadout before you head out.

How to Get New Starting Weapons

In addition to finding and using new Breakers, you can purchase new starting gear from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, you'll only have access to the Blades merchant. To unlock the Rails merchant, you'll need to gather enough materials to repair their shop.

Keep in mind that merchants have a limited stock of items, but their inventory refreshes over time. If you don't see what you're looking for initially, be sure to check back later to see what new items they have in stock.

How to Upgrade Weapons

To enhance your gear, you can upgrade your weapons at the merchants in the Outpost. However, you'll first need to unlock the Upgrade feature by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This requires Golden Rations, a scarce resource you can find either by exploring the world or resetting cycles. Given their rarity, it's crucial to use Golden Rations wisely.

Be aware that if you die, all equipped gear will lose one pip's worth of durability, indicated by the bar under their icons. If you die enough times, your gear will eventually break.
