The cards we're revealing today are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet included in the larger main set. These are reprints of existing cards, reskinned with concept art and characters from various Final Fantasy games. While they don't introduce new or mechanically unique cards like those featured in the recently shown Commander decks, they do celebrate the rich visual history of the series, stretching back to the very first game.

Unlike the cards in the main set, Through the Ages cards are not legal in Magic's Standard format (though they remain legal if the original card was already legal there). Essentially, they serve as alternate art versions of existing cards. However, you can find them in both the premium Collector Boosters and one in every three regular Play Boosters used for Limited events like Draft and Sealed.
If you're planning to dive deep into this set, whether at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll likely encounter these cards frequently. Five out of the six cards revealed are Rares, which means they'll be less common, but Thrum of the Vestige stands out as an Uncommon. This card, a reskin of the widely recognized Lightning Bolt, is poised to make a significant impact on the set.
The Warrior of Light reprint of Jodah, the Unifier, is another card that's sure to gain popularity. Jodah is a powerful and popular Commander, and the art here is Yoshitaka Amano's from the original Final Fantasy Japanese boxart. Similarly, Amano's iconic art for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been reimagined for Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's strongest partner commanders, which has only been reprinted once before.
These cards will launch physically as part of the larger Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions available on MTG Arena and MTGO starting June 10. Even if you're a Final Fantasy fan not yet into Magic, there's still reason to be excited. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the FF7 Remake series, hinted that the design of Sephiroth on one card holds a mysterious significance.
