Exclusive Offer: PlayStation Plus Extends Free Subscription for Five Days
Sony's weekend PSN outage, lasting nearly 24 hours, remains shrouded in mystery. While the company acknowledged an "operational issue" on social media, specifics regarding the cause and preventative measures remain undisclosed.
To compensate affected users, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions, automatically applied.
The outage significantly impacted gameplay, with over one-third of players unable to log in and widespread reports of server crashes.
Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games, has drawn criticism, and this outage further fuels those concerns.
This isn't the first major PSN disruption; a significant data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. Although less severe, the current incident has left PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's limited communication.
