EA Sports FC 25 has had a gameplay overhaul
EA Sports FC 25 has faced significant backlash, prompting a developer response. Criticisms extend beyond monetization practices to encompass technical issues and gameplay mechanics. The resulting "Gameplay Refresh Update" boasts over 50 changes addressing core gameplay systems.
Key improvements include adjustments to assists, shooting, goalkeeping, and defensive actions. The update aims to rectify frequent occurrences of defenders inexplicably catching up to ball carriers, and promises smoother attacking play with improved ball movement. AI-controlled reverse tackles and interceptions have been toned down, and the effectiveness of crossing passes has been reduced. Players in familiar roles now offer quicker support, and offside detection for AI-controlled offensive runs has been refined. Finally, the accuracy of long-range shots, both aimed and normal, has seen a slight improvement.
The initial reception of EA FC 25 was overwhelmingly negative, with only 36% of 474 player reviews being positive upon release. This negative sentiment stems from perceived corporate greed, numerous bugs and crashes, and compatibility issues with PlayStation controllers. Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat measures render it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
