Disney Lorcana has just unveiled a wealth of new information about the future of the trading card game. The ninth set, titled "Fabled," is scheduled for release on September 5, 2025. This expansion will introduce the game's first-ever Iconic and Epic rarity cards and will finally bring the long-awaited inclusion of "A Goofy Movie" characters.

Alongside details for "Fabled," new information was shared about the eighth set, "Reign of Jafar," ahead of its launch on June 6. The presentation also featured a tantalizing tease for the arrival of Darkwing Duck.

A significant amount of exciting news was shared for Disney Lorcana. We've compiled all the key details to ensure you have a complete overview.

"Fabled" Introduces Iconic and Epic Cards, "A Goofy Movie," and Set Rotation for Competitive Play

While many details about "Fabled" are still under wraps, the teases from the Disney Lorcana development team are making the wait for the pre-release on August 29 and the full launch on September 5 feel even longer.

The addition of "A Goofy Movie" cards is one of the most anticipated features in the "Fabled" set, though the team has not yet specified which characters will be included. They did confirm, however, that Mickey and Minnie will be the inaugural Iconic Cards.

Iconic Cards are set to become the rarest cards in the entire Lorcana game. Only two will be available in each future set. The first Iconic Cards feature stunning artwork of Mickey and Minnie on a carousel, making them highly sought-after by collectors and players.

Epic Cards will also debut in "Fabled." This new rarity tier sits between Legendary and the ultra-rare Enchanted and Iconic cards. Epic Cards will feature distinctive artwork and special foil treatments, offering players another opportunity to obtain unique cards, such as a new version of Elsa (Snow Queen).

Another major change with "Fabled" is the introduction of set rotation for competitive play. The top competitive format, named Core Constructed, will no longer permit cards from the first four Lorcana sets.

Fans of the older sets need not be overly concerned, as there will be multiple ways to use those cards. A new format, Infinity Constructed, will allow for their continued use. Additionally, "Fabled" will include reprinted cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), and these reprints will be legal for competitive play.

“To maintain a vibrant competitive environment, rotating out older cards to foster new strategies and fresh deck designs is a crucial step forward,” said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. “However, we recognize that many cards from those early sets are central to players' deck-building strategies, and we know not everyone was able to acquire the cards they wanted initially. That's why we are reprinting select cards from the first sets in Fabled, including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

For newcomers intrigued by these new sets, the team has announced a new entry point: the Collection Starter Set.

This set contains four "Fabled" booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor) on the cover, and a collector's guide.

"Reign of Jafar" Brings Aladdin and Bambi Cards Plus a New Cooperative Adventure

As a reminder, "Reign of Jafar" is Lorcana's eighth set, with a pre-release starting May 30 and a full release on June 6.

This set continues the ongoing storyline centered on the Disney villain. The Lorcana team provided a summary of the narrative.

"Jafar now wields the Hexwell Crown and has used it to corrupt Archazia’s Island to his wicked will," the official description states. "Traps and illusions are everywhere in Reign of Jafar. Glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber must unite to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."

Accompanying "Reign of Jafar" is the Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new cooperative "experience-in-a-box" where four players can join forces to challenge Jafar and his minions.

Key cards in the set include Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), and Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), among many others.

Future Teases Hint at "Whispers in the Well" and Darkwing Duck

At the conclusion of the presentation, Disney confirmed that the set following "Fabled" will be titled "Whispers in the Well," arriving in Q4 2025. While details were sparse, a key art piece revealed Mickey, Ariel, and suggested the potential addition of characters from Disney's Gargoyles. The art also hinted at a new type of Glimmer.

Looking further ahead, the team officially confirmed that Darkwing Duck, a highly requested character, will join the Lorcana game in 2026.
