This guide details how to obtain and utilize Prismatic Shards in Stardew Valley, updated for version 1.6. These rare, rainbow-colored gemstones are valuable for crafting, gifting, and completing quests.
Prismatic Shard Locations:
Several locations offer a chance to find Prismatic Shards, though the odds vary:
- Mines (Bottom Levels): 0.05% drop chance from monsters.
- Fish Ponds (Rainbow Trout): 0.09% chance from chum bucket (requires at least 9 Rainbow Trout).
- Skull Cavern: 0.1% drop chance from Serpents, Mummies, Wilderness Golems, and Iridium Golems (after Combat Level 10).
- Geodes & Mystery Boxes: 0.4% chance from Omni Geodes and Mystery Boxes; 0.79% from Golden Mystery Boxes.
- Iridium Nodes: 3.5% drop chance from Iridium Nodes in Skull Cavern, Volcano Dungeon, or Quarry.
- Treasure Chests (Skull Cavern): Approximately 3.8% chance.
- Mystic Nodes: 25% drop chance from Mystic Nodes (dark blue stones with curlicue patterns) in Skull Cavern, Quarry, or Mines (levels 100+).
- Meteorites: 25% chance from meteorites landing on your farm.
- Volcano Dungeon (First Completion): One shard in a chest.
- Desert Festival (Emily's Stall): One shard for 500 Calico Eggs (if Emily has a stall).
The most reliable method involves the Statue of True Perfection (obtained after achieving 100% perfection – see a separate guide for details), which yields one shard daily.
Prismatic Shard Uses:
Prismatic Shards have multiple uses:
- Museum Donation: Contributes to the "Complete Collection" achievement.
- Selling: 2000g each.
- Crafting & Bundles: Required for the Missing Bundle (Movie Theater unlock) and the Wedding Ring (multiplayer).
- Gifting: A "Loved" gift for most villagers (except Haley).
- Galaxy Sword: Transforming a shard at the three obelisks in Calico Desert creates this powerful weapon.
- Weapon Enchanting: Used with Cinder Shards to enchant weapons at the Volcano Forge on Ginger Island.
- Trading: Three shards can be traded for Magic Rock Candy from the Calico Desert trader (Thursdays). Alternatively, trading one with the Dark Shrine of Selfishness in the Witch's Hut will transform your children into doves (permanent).
- Quests: Required for Mr. Qi's "Four Precious Stones" quest.
Remember, obtaining Prismatic Shards requires patience and exploration. Knowing their potential locations significantly increases your chances of success.
