Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

The game frequently warns against engaging Lu Bu, but defeating him offers significant rewards. This guide details how to overcome this formidable foe.

Should You Fight Lu Bu?

While challenging, defeating Lu Bu provides considerable bragging rights and potentially necessary progression. If playing as Shu or Wei, the Battle of Xiapi in Chapter 4 necessitates fighting him. Defeating him at Hulao Gate unlocks the "The Strongest" trophy, and a post-game victory earns the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd.

Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu

Before the battle, equip a multi-hit sword for staggering, and Battle Arts with low Bravery costs, quick activation, and wide range (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash). Accessories boosting health and defense (like Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell) are crucial. A weapon granting Bravery on Perfect Evades is also highly recommended.

Initially, Lu Bu charges on Red Hare. His attacks have limited area of effect, except for Red Hare's jump attack, making evasion relatively easy. Use Battle Arts when he pauses, then retreat. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts.

Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu

On foot, Lu Bu is incredibly aggressive. His attacks are rapid, and he frequently moves quickly across the battlefield. A red aura indicates an uninterruptible combo. Evade his charges (he typically charges in sets of three). A grab attack, easily evaded, is signaled by his lack of spear.

His most dangerous move is a three-arrow volley after a brief orange glow. Absconding Slash can interrupt this from a distance; close-range Battle Arts are fatal. Keep your Musou gauge full for invincibility in emergencies. Lu Bu is surprisingly juggleable in this phase; consistent attacks rapidly charge your Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude. Close-range combat allows for quicker reaction to his attacks. Prioritize evasion.

Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage

Depleting enough health triggers Lu Bu's Musou Rage, initiating the final phase. He becomes unstaggerable and unleashes relentless attacks. The objective is to break his Fortitude before he uses his Musou attack (which, if successful, immediately restarts the phase). Utilize all remaining resources: Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes.

Successfully breaking his Fortitude in this phase secures victory.
