"Defeat and Capture Uth Duna: Monster Hunter Wilds Guide"
The beasts that roam the Forbidden Lands in *Monster Hunter Wilds* are each as fearsome as the next. Uth Duna, a striking leviathan-type monster, is one you'll encounter early in the game. If you're eager to reap its rewards, here's a comprehensive guide on how to beat and capture it.

Uth Duna makes its grand entrance in the **Scarlet Forest** during Chapter 1's mission questline. After you've triumphed over other notable foes like Lala Barina and Congalala, you and Alma will need to rendezvous with Olivia and Erik, who are investigating a nearby dam. However, as the weather shifts dramatically into a raging monsoon, Uth Duna will reveal itself during **Mission 1-5: Beyond the Deluge**. Your goal then becomes clear: defeat this beast before it wreaks further havoc.

Known as **‘A Feast in the Deep’**, Uth Duna emerges when the waters in the Scarlet Forest rise to perilous levels. As the region's apex predator, confronting this monster is notably tougher than previous encounters in the story.
Before engaging Uth Duna, consider equipping a **thunder-element weapon**—your first opportunity to acquire one is with Rey Dau in Mission 2-2. If that's not possible, opt for gear or a Talisman, such as **Water Charm I**, to boost your water resistance.
Don't forget to enjoy a hearty meal before heading out to keep your Health and Stamina at peak levels. Also, pack **Nulberries** to counteract **Waterblight**, the primary status ailment Uth Duna can inflict.
Uth Duna Attacks and Weaknesses
When facing Uth Duna, pay attention to its iridescent fins on its legs and tail, which serve as a **‘Veil’**. This veil temporarily increases the monster's defense, albeit at the cost of reduced mobility. Damaging the veil enough will cause the fins to retract, exposing Uth Duna's weak points, such as its **Head, Mouth, Tail, and Forelegs**.
Be cautious, though, as without its heavy fins, Uth Duna becomes more aggressive and its attacks more frequent. Staying agile in the water is crucial.
Uth Duna's arsenal includes mostly physical attacks that leverage its size to cause significant damage and create waves that can hinder your movement. Watch out for these key moves:
- **Belly Slam** – Uth Duna rises on its back legs, exposing its belly, before falling forward in a powerful slam.
- **Roar** – Like other monsters, Uth Duna's roar can temporarily immobilize you.
- **Body Coil** – It coils its body and spins before lashing out with its tail in a sweeping attack.
- **Aerial Twirl** – Mimicking a whale's leap, Uth Duna performs a twirling jump into the air and slams back down, affecting a wide area.
- **Leg Swipe** – When engaged up close, it may swipe at you with its clawed feet.
Uth Duna's weak points include its **Head (breakable), Mouth, Tail (breakable), and both Forelegs (breakable)**. After defeating it once, you can check its weaknesses in the Field Guide.
Should You Capture or Kill Uth Duna?

In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, as in previous games, you have the choice to capture or kill Uth Duna near the end of the battle. To capture it, weaken the monster until it's "tired" or "exhausted" (nearly dead), then use either **Shock Traps** or **Pitfall Traps**. Once trapped, deploy at least one **Tranq Bomb** to knock it out, completing your capture.
Both options are viable, with the main difference being the item rewards you receive. While exact differences are yet to be confirmed, here are the potential drops from Uth Duna:
