New Content Drop for 'Dishonored 2' Surprises Players
Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox
Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The patch, weighing in at a mere 230MB (though requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to focus on bug fixes and language file updates. This comes as a surprise, given the game's 2016 release date.
Developed by Arkane Lyon (currently working on Marvel's Blade), Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, adding to the acclaimed gameplay and intricate level design of its predecessor. The update's release is particularly interesting considering the recent closure of Arkane Austin, the studio behind the original Dishonored and Prey. This closure, part of broader Xbox studio cuts in 2024, has impacted Arkane's development output.
The lack of a highly anticipated 60 FPS mode in this update has disappointed some fans. While other Arkane titles offer 60 FPS performance on newer consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. A future 60 FPS patch, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, remains a possibility, but is not confirmed. The absence of Arkane Austin also casts doubt on the timeline for a potential third mainline Dishonored game.
In short, while the recent Dishonored 2 update addresses minor issues, it falls short of players' hopes for significant performance enhancements. The future of the Dishonored franchise remains uncertain, with Arkane Lyon's focus currently on its Marvel's Blade project.
