Launch Date Moved to September 12
In a surprising turn of events following the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford took to Twitter (X) on April 29 to reveal that Borderlands 4's launch date has been moved up to September 12. Although he quickly deleted the initial video and followed up with a post saying it was posted prematurely, the news was out.
In his video, Pitchford expressed that the development has been exceptionally smooth, stating, "everything’s going kinda the best scenario," which has allowed them to advance the launch date. Originally, during PlayStation’s February State of Play, Borderlands 4 was slated for a September 23 release. However, the game's official Twitter (X) account confirmed the new, earlier date of September 12.
The official post from Borderlands 4's Twitter (X) reads, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
Gearbox Software is committed to delivering what they promise to be the greatest Borderlands game to date. With the release date now closer than initially planned, fans can look forward to exploring and causing chaos on the new planet of Kairos sooner than expected.
Borderlands 4 is set to launch on September 12, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Stay tuned to our updates for the latest news and insights on the game!
