Games Workshop's highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 animation, Astartes 2, has resurfaced with a stunning teaser trailer, captivating fans worldwide. However, a crucial detail emerges: the trailer showcases scenes not featured in the actual animation.

Astartes 2 serves as the sequel to the acclaimed fan-made original, created by Syama Pedersen. Considered by many as the pinnacle of Warhammer 40,000 animation, it arguably rivals Amazon's recent Space Marine 2 animation. Astartes' success significantly influenced Saber Interactive's Space Marine 2 game, prompting Games Workshop to hire Pedersen for the sequel.

After a prolonged silence, the January 29th teaser trailer release surprised fans. The trailer boasts breathtaking visuals, showcasing unprecedented scale and quality, featuring melee and ranged combat, vehicle warfare, and even space battles. Various Space Marine chapters clash across diverse environments against Tyranids, Orks, and Tau.

While the trailer expertly builds hype, Games Workshop clarified on the Warhammer Community website that the footage is not from Astartes 2. Instead, it depicts the past lives of characters who will appear in the final animation, hinting at the overarching narrative.

The lack of a disclaimer on the trailer itself is a potential issue, as viewers might reasonably assume the depicted scenes will appear in the final product. This omission could lead to disappointment upon the animation's 2026 release on the Warhammer+ streaming service.

Despite this, the trailer fuels speculation. The final image suggests the characters converge in an Inquisition-led Deathwatch Terminator squad. This teaser has already sparked interest from Space Marine 2 fans, hoping some elements, perhaps even the capes, might find their way into the game. Given Saber Interactive's ongoing updates, such inspiration isn't entirely improbable.
