Both protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, have the opportunity to explore romantic relationships. Players have the flexibility to decide whether these connections will be fleeting or evolve into lasting bonds, even with canon mode activated.

Engaging in romance in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is refreshingly straightforward. As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter multiple quest chains focused on Naoe or Yasuke building relationships with potential allies. Some of these interactions may turn flirty, hinting at deeper connections. When you encounter dialogue options, look for the heart icon next to choices that will advance a romantic storyline. Consistently selecting these options will deepen the relationship, and the icon will eventually transform to include Cupid’s arrow at crucial moments.

However, choosing a heart icon option once or twice doesn't automatically lock you into a relationship. Conversely, missing out on early flirty options can impact later romantic possibilities. For instance, in my playthrough, an early decision not to flirt with Gennojo led to him rejecting Naoe’s later advances. Therefore, it's wise to keep your romantic options open, as you never know which character might capture your heart later on.
