Assassin's Creed Shadows Pre-Orders Meeting Expectations
Ubisoft confidently reports strong preorder numbers for Assassin's Creed Shadows despite development setbacks and controversy. Their latest financial report indicates preorders are comparable to those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, a top performer in the franchise.
CEO Yves Guillemot emphasizes the company's focus on the March 20th launch, highlighting positive early previews praising the narrative, immersive experience, and dual protagonist gameplay. He commended the development team's dedication to delivering the franchise's most ambitious title yet.
Originally slated for November, then February 14th, the game's release was delayed to March 20th. The game's success is crucial for Ubisoft, following recent underperforming titles and investor concerns. It marks a highly anticipated Japan-set installment and the first full Assassin's Creed game since 2020.
The promotional period has faced challenges, including apologies for historical inaccuracies in the game's depiction of Japan and unauthorized use of a historical group's flag. Further controversy arose from the removal of a "insensitive" collectible statue by PureArts. These issues, coupled with the delays, have led to growing fan impatience.
