AMD recently provided an early glimpse into the next generation of its frame generation technology, AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) 2. This new version is designed to significantly enhance your gaming experience, boasting up to 28% lower latency and tailored modes for various resolutions to match your gaming setup. AFMF 2 introduces several new optimizations and adjustable settings for frame generation, aiming to increase frame rates and improve the overall smoothness of gameplay.

Leveraging advanced AI algorithms, AFMF 2 not only enhances image quality but also reduces latency and boosts performance. Feedback from a select group of gamers has been overwhelmingly positive, with AMD reporting an average rating of 9.3/10 for image quality and smoothness in a recent poll. "We polled gamers and AFMF received an average rating of 9.3/10 for image quality and smoothness," AMD proudly announced.

"All this adds up to a substantial improvement over AFMF 1," AMD stated, "and because we couldn’t wait to get this upgrade into gamers' hands, we are releasing it as a technical preview so your feedback can help make AFMF 2 even better."

The standout feature of AFMF 2 is its significant reduction in latency. In AMD's testing, AFMF 2 achieved up to 28% lower latency on average compared to its predecessor. For example, in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K resolution with ultra settings and powered by an RX 7900 XTX, AMD observed a notable decrease in latency. The company encourages players to experience these improvements firsthand, noting that AFMF 2 can "deliver on average 28% lower latency at 4K using the Ray Tracing: Ultra graphics preset when compared to AFMF 1."

AMD has also broadened the compatibility and functionality of AFMF 2. The technology now supports borderless fullscreen modes when paired with AMD Radeon RX 7000 and Radeon 700M series graphics cards. Furthermore, AFMF 2 is compatible with games using Vulkan and OpenGL, which can further enhance animation smoothness. Additionally, AMD has enabled interoperability with AMD Radeon Chill, allowing users to set a driver-controlled FPS cap for optimized performance.
