Project Zomboid: How to Board Up Windows
Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a place to hide. This guide shows you how to create a basic, yet effective, barricade for your windows.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To board up your windows, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these supplies, right-click on the window you wish to secure. Your character will automatically begin nailing the plank in place. Each window can support up to four planks for increased protection.
Hammers and nails are commonly found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Planks are frequently located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture like shelves or chairs. Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn items if needed.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks you add, the longer it takes for them to breach the window. To remove planks, right-click on them and select "Remove." You'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators, etc.) cannot be used as effective barricades; characters and zombies will pass right through them. However, knowing how to move furniture is still a useful skill for interior design!
For stronger barricades, metal bars or sheets are a better option, but require sufficient Metalworking skill.
