Ubisoft NFT Game Launch
Ubisoft Quietly Launches New NFT Game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft's latest venture into the NFT gaming space, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., has been released under the radar. This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter, as reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, requires players to purchase an NFT to participate.
A Unique Gameplay Experience
Expanding the universe of the Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the game incorporates familiar Ubisoft IPs, including hints of Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. Limited to 10,000 players, access is granted through the purchase of a Citizen ID Card NFT. This card tracks in-game achievements and rankings, evolving based on player performance.
The Citizen ID Card, costing $25.63, is purchased via Ubisoft's claim page using a crypto wallet. Players can later resell or renounce their citizenship, potentially impacting the card's value.
According to Ubisoft's Magic Eden page, the full game launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access for those who secured their ID cards early.
A Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Connection
The game's foundation lies in the Netflix animated series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Set in an alternate 1992 where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the series follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier turned rebel.
While Ubisoft hasn't detailed the game's narrative, it shares the same universe. Players assume the role of Eden citizens, influencing the storyline through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community participation. Their "citizen score" directly impacts the game's evolving narrative.
