Twitch Announces Ban on Dr Disrespect: Leaked DMs Surface

Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, known online as Dr Disrespect, has publicly acknowledged that his Twitch ban stemmed from inappropriate messaging with an underage individual. This revelation sheds light on his abrupt departure from the platform after years of speculation.

Four years after his June 26th Twitch ban, and following a lawsuit settlement with Amazon in early 2022, former Twitch employee Cody Conners alleged on Twitter that Dr Disrespect's ban resulted from "sexting a minor" via the now-defunct Twitch Whispers feature.

Dr Disrespect initially denied wrongdoing, but three days later issued a statement admitting to inappropriate conversations with a minor via Twitch Whispers in 2017, three years prior to his ban. He clarified that while the messages were inappropriate, there were no malicious intentions and no in-person meeting occurred. This directly addresses Conners' claim that Dr Disrespect aimed to meet the minor at TwitchCon. His statement garnered nearly 11 million views in under 90 minutes. He faced criticism for initially omitting the "minor" detail from his tweet, later correcting the omission.

Separately, Dr Disrespect addressed his departure from Midnight Society, the game development studio he co-founded. While Midnight Society cited upholding its principles in terminating their relationship, Dr Disrespect described the decision as a mutual and painful one, offering apologies to his team, community, and family.

Despite the controversy, Dr Disrespect plans to return to streaming after an extended break, dismissing accusations of predatory behavior levied against him.
