Trump's Tariffs Impact PC Hardware: Razer Gaming Laptop Discontinued
The return of import tariffs under U.S. President Trump is once again sending ripples through the gaming community, this time directly affecting Razer’s high-performance Blade 16 gaming laptop. These tariffs—essentially taxes on imported goods—are typically absorbed by companies in the supply chain, but more often than not, the cost gets passed down to consumers. For gamers, this usually translates into higher prices across a range of tech and gaming products.
In some cases, products are being temporarily removed from sale altogether. As first reported by The Verge, the Razer Blade 16 was briefly available for purchase in the U.S. as recently as April 1—but now, the option to buy it has vanished entirely from Razer’s official website. While European customers can currently place orders (if the device is in stock—availability is limited in the UK), the U.S. site only offers a “Notify Me” button with no pricing details visible. Attempting to access the Buy Now page leads users to a 404 error page, signaling that the product page has effectively been pulled.
Razer isn’t alone in pausing U.S. sales until market conditions stabilize. Tariffs targeting imports from China and Taiwan—where many essential PC components are manufactured—are expected to impact American consumers as well. Memory giant Micron has already warned of potential price surges due to these new trade barriers. Similarly, PC brand Framework has opted to "temporarily pause" certain U.S. sales in response to the shifting economic landscape.
This issue isn't limited to laptops either. Just days ago, the pre-order date for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2—originally set for April 9—was quietly removed from U.S. storefronts after Trump's renewed tariff policies caused widespread financial uncertainty. The disruption quickly spread northward, with Nintendo Canada confirming that pre-orders would also be delayed in that region.
As a result, concerns are growing among Nintendo fans and industry analysts that the company may respond by increasing the retail price of the Switch 2 and its associated software titles. This comes at a sensitive time, as Nintendo already faces criticism over the console’s initial pricing unveiled during the recent Nintendo Direct presentation.
