Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight's hit game, Split Fiction. The project, which is being spearheaded by video game adaptation specialists Story Kitchen—the team behind the successful Sonic films—is starting to gain momentum. According to Variety, Wicked director Jon M. Chu is on board to direct, and the screenplay is being penned by the duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Story Kitchen is currently shopping this promising talent package to Hollywood studios, anticipating a competitive bidding war.

A significant point of interest is which sister Sweeney will portray in the film—Zoe or Mio. Variety notes that this decision has yet to be finalized.

Split Fiction, launched in March, has already become a massive success for Hazelight and its designer Josef Fares, selling over 2 million copies within its first week. It's also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review of the game awarded it a 9/10, praising its innovative co-op gameplay and dynamic shifts in genre and style, describing it as "a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight's success doesn't stop with Split Fiction. Their other blockbuster title, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, is also being adapted into a film, with rumors suggesting that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may take a leading role.

While there's always a chance these movie deals might not come to fruition, the current wave of successful video game adaptations suggests Hollywood is eager to make these projects work. Last year, Story Kitchen announced several other adaptations, including films based on Square Enix's Just Cause, Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie, showcasing their busy slate.

Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next from the innovative studio.
