Supposed Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Date Revealed by Leaker
Summary
- Reports indicate the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced on Thursday, January 16th.
- Interestingly, the original Switch was also unveiled on a Thursday in 2016.
A well-regarded and reliable leaker claims the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially announced on January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 reveal strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.
The Switch's successor has been a poorly-kept secret for some time. Reports suggest mass production began around late September or early October 2024, a claim supported by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo itself committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.
NateTheHate, a known leaker, stated on his January 13th podcast that the Switch 2 reveal is scheduled for Thursday, January 16th, citing unnamed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of using Thursdays for major announcements—the original Switch teaser in 2016 was also a Thursday announcement. Tom Warren of The Verge corroborated this information.
Nintendo Switch 2: Already Widely Leaked
Whether Nintendo will follow the 2017 pattern of a pre-reveal social media teaser remains to be seen. However, given the extensive leaks over the past months, a surprise reveal is unlikely. The sheer volume of leaked information is so significant that Nintendo even commented on a Switch 2 replica, a rare acknowledgment of leaks.
To recap the leaks, the Switch 2 is rumored to be slightly larger than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm) with an 8-inch LCD screen. The Joy-Cons will reportedly attach magnetically, with the right Joy-Con featuring an extra "C" button below the home key. The function of this button remains unclear, but it may be related to a rumored mouse-like pointer mode.
Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Lineup Remains Unclear
Unlike the hardware details, the Switch 2's launch game lineup is shrouded in mystery. While My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed for the console, neither is expected to be a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely leverage at least one or two major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
