Gunn's post enthusiastically announced the start of filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, praising director Craig Gillespie (known for Cruella and I, Tonya) and highlighting Milly Alcock's exceptional talent as Kara Zor-El.

The film is heavily inspired by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award for "Best Limited Series," the graphic novel is a must-read for fans.

Matthias Schoenaerts is cast as Krem, with Eve Ridley portraying Ruthye. The impressive ensemble cast also includes David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as her mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role in the DC Universe as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the newly established DC Universe. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (with its connection to Gunn's universe yet to be confirmed) and a reported Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
