'Sirens of the Deep' Release Date and Plot
Geralt of Rivia has returned. This time, it's the iconic voice of Geralt from The Witcher video games. Netflix's latest entry into its expanding Witcher Universe is a new animated adventure set on the Continent. Sirens of the Deep is a spin-off movie that takes place within the timeline of Season 1 of the live-action series, with Doug Cockle returning to voice the legendary monster hunter.
In his IGN review of Sirens of the Deep, critic Jarrod Jones notes, "While the dynamic between Cockle’s Geralt and Joey Batey’s Jaskier has its appeal, this Witcher crossover will likely resonate most with devoted fans." For many, it might serve as a welcome placeholder while awaiting the release of The Witcher 4.

The entire Witcher universe originates from the works of author Andrzej Sapkowski. Sirens of the Deep is a direct adaptation of the short story “A Little Sacrifice,” found in the second Witcher book, which is a collection of short stories. The film's events are set during the first season of the Netflix series, specifically between episodes 5 and 6. Here is the official synopsis:
When Geralt is hired to investigate a series of attacks on a coastal village, he uncovers a long-simmering conflict between humans and the merfolk that threatens to ignite a full-scale war. With the help of his allies, the monster hunter must solve the mystery before tensions boil over.
What Else Is in The Witcher Universe?
The Witcher began as a book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, chronicling the adventures of monster hunter Geralt in a world rich with Slavic folklore. Inspired by the novels, CD Projekt Red launched the first Witcher game in 2007. The video games, especially the celebrated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, are considered among the greatest RPGs ever made, leading to numerous spin-offs and merchandise, including a physical version of the in-game card game Gwent. A new game, The Witcher 4, featuring a new protagonist, was announced at the 2024 Game Awards.
Netflix entered the fray in 2019, producing three seasons of a live-action Witcher TV series starring Henry Cavill. A fourth season, which will introduce Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt, is scheduled to premiere in April.
