Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Developer Insists 'Everything We Have Talked About Is Still in Development'
Saber Interactive assures fans that all previously announced games remain in development, despite the prolonged silence surrounding high-profile titles like the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. Following the announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Saber's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, tweeted a reassuring message to the studio's fanbase. Willits stated, “Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share.”
The most prominent game addressed by Willits' statement is the elusive KOTOR remake. Announced in 2021, this highly anticipated project has faced numerous setbacks, including multiple handoffs and reported development halts. Four years later, tangible progress remains unseen.
In April 2024, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch confirmed the company retained the KOTOR project following its separation from Embracer Group, assuring fans that development continued. He stated, "It's clear and it's obvious that we're working on this. It's been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations."
Willits' recent statement corroborates Karch's earlier reassurance, yet the KOTOR remake remains shrouded in mystery, with no new material beyond the initial announcement trailer.
Saber Interactive also has other projects underway, including several slated for release this year. John Carpenter's Toxic Commando and Jurassic Park Survival are still planned for 2025, although release dates remain unannounced. Additionally, a new Turok game and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender title are in development. The recently announced Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 further expands Saber's extensive development pipeline.
