10-Minute Pre-Order Trailer Highlights New Characters and Gameplay
Kojima Productions, in collaboration with Sony, announced the release date for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach (DS2) at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival on March 9, 2025, in Austin, Texas. The event kicked off with a captivating 10-minute trailer directed by Hideo Kojima, showcasing fresh story elements and gameplay footage. The trailer emphasized the ongoing theme of human connectivity in a post-apocalyptic setting.
Hideo Kojima was joined on stage by PlayStation’s Global Content Communications Manager Kristen Zitan, and actors from DS2 including Norman Reedus, reprising his role as Sam Porter Bridges, Troy Baker, and French Music Director and Designer Woodkid. The trailer introduced a new character, Neil, portrayed by Luca Marinelli, leading a mysterious faction. Fans were quick to spot Neil's striking resemblance to Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series, particularly due to the iconic headband.
This resemblance was not lost on Kojima himself, who in a July 2020 Instagram post noted that Marinelli, when wearing a bandana, bore a striking similarity to Solid Snake. The faction led by Neil is poised to play a significant role in the narrative of Death Stranding 2.
