Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Unveiled: Super Thin Design
Samsung unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy S25 Edge at its May Unpacked event, showcasing a new flagship smartphone that pushes the boundaries of design and performance. Although it shares many similarities with the earlier-released Galaxy S25, the S25 Edge boasts a significantly thinner profile that sets it apart.
In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge closely mirrors the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a high-resolution 200MP camera. The standout feature is its sleek chassis, which has been refined to a mere 5.8mm in thickness, a notable reduction from the 8.2mm of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This thinner design not only enhances the phone's aesthetics but also reduces its weight to a feather-light 163g.
Despite its slim profile, the Galaxy S25 Edge retains the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display as the standard S25 model, which is essentially identical to the slightly larger 6.9-inch display on the S25 Ultra.
Given its thin and expansive form factor, durability becomes a critical factor. Samsung addresses this concern by incorporating the new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which promises enhanced durability over the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the S25 Ultra. The real test, however, will be how well it withstands everyday pressures, such as being sat on in a pocket, raising questions about potential "bendgate" issues.
The Galaxy S25 Edge also inherits the suite of "Mobile AI" tools introduced with the Galaxy S24 and further refined in 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset enables substantial AI processing to be performed directly on the device, enhancing privacy by minimizing reliance on cloud-based services. Nevertheless, many AI applications still depend on cloud support. Samsung has included innovative features like notification and news article summarization, which can be particularly useful for quick information consumption.
Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are now open, with prices starting at $1,099 for the 256GB version and $1,219 for the 512GB model. The device is available in three striking color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.
Samsung is keen to emphasize the durability of this slender device. Only time will tell if their claims hold up to real-world use.
