Ryan Reynolds Explains Deadpool's Solo Path, Avoiding Avengers and X-Men
Ryan Reynolds has recently expressed skepticism about Deadpool joining either the Avengers or the X-Men, suggesting that such a move would signal the end of the character's journey. In his words to Time, "If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end. That's wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that." This statement comes on the heels of the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, where Deadpool's desire to join the Avengers was a central plot point. Despite fan speculation and the character's enthusiasm in the film, Reynolds hints that a formal promotion to these iconic teams might not be in Deadpool's future.
The cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday last month included several veteran X-Men actors like Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, confirming the significant involvement of the X-Men in the upcoming film. This has led fans to speculate whether Avengers: Doomsday could secretly be an Avengers vs. X-Men movie. However, Reynolds was notably absent from the list of confirmed stars for Avengers: Doomsday, although Channing Tatum, who played Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, did make the cut.
Reynolds did suggest that a surprise cameo as Deadpool in a supporting role could be a possibility, citing the positive fan reception to Wesley Snipes' cameo as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. This leaves room for Deadpool to make unexpected appearances in future projects without officially joining the Avengers or X-Men.
Looking ahead, Reynolds mentioned he is currently writing a new project that involves an "ensemble," though he remained tight-lipped about the details. This could hint at another Deadpool movie featuring a range of cameos, similar to the approach taken in Deadpool & Wolverine. Potential cameo candidates include Wesley Snipes' Blade, Channing Tatum's Gambit, Jennifer Garner's Elektra, and Dafne Keen's Laura Kinney/X-23.

As for Avengers: Doomsday, while the cast list has been revealed, the plot details remain under wraps. Anthony Mackie, who will reprise his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, recently expressed optimism about the film, stating that it aims to recapture "that old Marvel feeling that they always had." Other cast members like Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) have also shared their excitement about the project.
An apparent set photo leak from Avengers: Doomsday sparked intense discussions among fans, with some interpreting it as bad news for the X-Men. Additionally, speculation about Oscar Isaac potentially appearing as Moon Knight in Avengers: Doomsday arose after he withdrew from the Star Wars Celebration due to changes in his production schedule.
Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige confirmed that the Avengers livestream did not reveal the entire cast of Doomsday, stating, "We revealed many, not all." This leaves open the possibility of additional surprises and character inclusions as the film's release date approaches.
