RuneScape: Dragonwilds made a thrilling surprise announcement during its early access livestream on April 16. The developers at Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam, a mere few weeks after the release of its first trailer.

The gaming community was taken aback, especially since the game had only recently been opened for wishlist on Steam on April 1 and showcased its first gameplay teaser on April 2. While RuneScape: Dragonwilds was initially teased in 2022, alpha testing signups for this new survival game set within the RuneScape universe were only opened in late 2024. The game's official reveal as RuneScape: Dragonwilds occurred on March 31, 2025.

Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026

Jagex has set sights on an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds. They emphasized their commitment to delivering a polished and fulfilling experience, stating, "We want to spend the time to get everything right to make sure that our players get a complete, satisfying experience that you’ll want to revisit with friends again and again."

Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, highlighted that Dragonwilds represents a fresh take on the RuneScape universe, designed to captivate both long-time fans and newcomers. He added, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while listening closely to the community to deliver an iconic open world survival crafting game that is loved equally by our biggest RuneScape fans and new players alike."

Early Access Roadmap Revealed

Jagex unveiled an ambitious roadmap for the early access phase of Dragonwilds, teasing what players can look forward to. A standout feature is the introduction of a new region, Fellhollow, which exists in a liminal space between life and death.

Fellhollow is dominated by the soul-eater dragon Imaru and influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will explore this eerie new area alongside the iconic RuneScape character Death. This update will also bring new quests, lore, gear, and music, along with expanded skills in magic, ranged, and farming.

Additionally, the game will introduce Lesser Dragons as new enemies, dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, a creative mode, and a host of other enhancements. While specific release dates for these updates remain undisclosed, Jagex assures continuous improvements throughout the early access period.

Players who jump into Dragonwilds during its early access phase will be rewarded with exclusive in-game items. According to the game's Steam page, "Early Adopters" will receive:
