Resident Evil Trilogy Receives DRM Update for iOS

TouchArcade Rating: While updates for premium mobile ports often improve optimization or compatibility, Capcom's recent update (released an hour ago) for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces unwelcome online DRM. This DRM checks purchase history upon game launch, verifying ownership before accessing the title screen. Rejecting the check closes the application. This requires an internet connection every time you start the game, adding a delay even for returning players. Crucially, offline play is no longer possible.

Pre-update, all three games functioned offline. Post-update, the online check is mandatory. While this might not bother everyone, the forced online DRM in already-purchased games is a significant drawback. Ideally, Capcom would implement a less intrusive purchase verification system, perhaps checking less frequently. This update negatively impacts the recommendation of Capcom's premium mobile ports.
