Rambo is set to make a thrilling return with a new prequel project titled "John Rambo," directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on "Sisu" and "Big Game." According to Deadline, Millennium Media, the powerhouse behind the Expendables and Has Fallen series, is currently showcasing the film at the Cannes market. This market runs concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, serving as a platform for filmmakers to unveil upcoming projects and attract funding or distribution partners. Millennium Media, which also produced the 2008 "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood," is steering this new venture.

Details about "John Rambo's" plot are scarce, but it is confirmed to be set during the Vietnam War, acting as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film "First Blood." Casting decisions remain pending, and while original Rambo star Sylvester Stallone is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been crafted by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the duo behind "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand in October. Helander's recent success with the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," which transformed the concept of John Wick into an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis, showcases his ability to handle high-octane action, making him a fitting choice for this prequel.
