PS5 Home Screen Ads Mistake
Sony Addresses PS5 Home Screen Ad Glitch as a "Tech Error"
A recent PlayStation 5 update caused a flurry of complaints from users due to an influx of promotional materials on the console's home screen. Sony swiftly responded, attributing the issue to a technical error within the Official News feature. The company announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the problem has been rectified, emphasizing that no alterations were made to the way game news is typically displayed.
Initial user backlash stemmed from the unexpected appearance of ads and promotional artwork, along with outdated news items, dominating the PS5 home screen. This change, reportedly implemented gradually over several weeks and finalized with the recent update, prompted widespread online frustration.
While the updated home screen now reportedly displays art and news relevant to the user's currently focused game, the controversy persists. Some users maintain this is a poor design choice, citing the replacement of unique game art with promotional thumbnails as a negative change. Concerns were also raised regarding the unsolicited nature of the advertisements on a premium-priced console. The sentiment expressed online highlights a desire for either a reversal of the changes or, at the very least, an opt-out option.
