Pirate Software Removed from OnlyFangs WoW Guild
Pirate Software was recently removed from the World of Warcraft streamer guild, OnlyFangs, following a disastrous run in Dire Maul North, a newly added dungeon to the World of Warcraft Anniversary servers. This incident led to the Hardcore deaths of guild members Sara and Snupy, sparking significant controversy within the guild.
Before the official launch of Hardcore servers by Blizzard in August 2023, players had already been engaging in zero-death runs under community-imposed rules. However, the popularity of these servers waned until the introduction of Anniversary servers in November 2024. These new servers revitalized interest in World of Warcraft Classic, overshadowing the original Classic servers with their low population. The Anniversary servers have seen both numerous Hardcore player deaths and successes, with some players reaching level 60 under the stringent conditions.
The incident that led to Pirate Software's expulsion was detailed in a Discord statement by OnlyFangs Guild Master Sodapoppin. The statement revealed that during the Dire Maul North run, the group accidentally aggroed a boss before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. When a party member suggested retreating to reset the enemies, Pirate Software left the group during the escape, contributing to the subsequent deaths of Sara and Snupy. Despite the possibility of staying in the guild under typical circumstances, Pirate Software's refusal to accept responsibility for the mishap resulted in his removal from OnlyFangs.
Further criticism arose from Pirate Software's failure to use crowd control abilities effectively during the run. Sodapoppin highlighted during a review that Pirate Software could have employed Blizzard rank 1 to manage the enemies more safely. Additionally, fellow guild member Mizkif mentioned that Pirate Software's threats towards other streamers post-incident were a significant factor in his removal. Pirate Software took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with how the situation was managed.
Since the guild's recreation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, several members have been expelled, and there is speculation that some may form their own groups. With Blizzard continuing to update World of Warcraft Classic with Vanilla-accurate patches, the community anticipates more challenging dungeons and raids, potentially leading to further OnlyFangs deaths.
