New Patent Confirms Joy-Con Features for Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 is generating buzz, particularly with its innovative Joy-Con changes, as revealed by recent patents. Although Nintendo has yet to officially confirm these details, reports suggest that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will feature magnetic attachments and a unique mouse-like functionality.

According to the patent, the Joy-Cons will attach to the Switch 2 via a recess in the console's body, which includes two magnets. The patent states, "This game controller is detachably mounted to a body device that has a recess, that comprises a first magnet and a second magnet at the bottom of the recess, and that can execute game processing." To detach the Joy-Cons, users must press two buttons located on the top surface of the protrusion, each attracted to a respective magnet.

The patent also illustrates how the Joy-Cons can function as a mouse. When held railside down, the shoulder buttons, R1 and R2, act as left and right mouse buttons, respectively. There's also a potential scrolling function using the joysticks. The illustrations showcase various configurations, including using one Joy-Con as a mouse while the other serves as a standard game controller.

Early leaks hinted at the magnetic attachments, while the mouse-like feature emerged later. A teaser released in January subtly hinted at this functionality by showing the Joy-Cons gliding across a surface like a computer mouse.
