Palworld Introduces Crossplay in Major Update by Late March
Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for an exciting crossplay update scheduled for late March 2025. In a recent post on X/Twitter, the studio announced that this update will introduce multiplayer functionality across all platforms, along with the ability to transfer Pals between worlds. While details remain sparse, a promotional image showcased a group of Palworld characters engaging in battle against a formidable Pal.
Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, John 'Bucky' Buckley, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will accompany the March update. This news is particularly thrilling for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access debut in January 2024. Looking ahead, Pocketpair has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, which includes not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and additional new content for the popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld made a splash upon its launch on Steam for $30 and its simultaneous inclusion in Game Pass on Xbox and PC, shattering sales and concurrent player records. The game's massive success overwhelmed Pocketpair, with CEO Takuro Mizobe admitting the studio struggled to manage the enormous profits generated. Capitalizing on this triumph, Pocketpair quickly secured a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture dedicated to expanding the Palworld IP and bringing the game to PS5.
However, the game's success has attracted legal challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, seeking an injunction and damages for alleged patent infringements. In response, Pocketpair has identified the specific patents in question and adjusted the Pal summoning mechanics in Palworld. The studio remains steadfast, promising to defend its position vigorously in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
