Nintendo's Latest Announcement: Not a Switch 2, but Alarmo

Nintendo took to their Twitter (X) account to share that their innovative device, Alarmo, will be more widely available starting in March 2025. Within the next couple of months, you'll be able to find Alarmo at major retailers worldwide, including Target, Walmart, GameStop, and other Nintendo-approved stores.

In a move that will delight many, the requirement for a Nintendo Online membership to purchase Alarmo will be removed, making it accessible to all. You can snag the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo for $99.99 USD.

While fans are thrilled about the Alarmo news, the buzz continues around the potential announcement of the Switch 2. However, Nintendo has kept quiet on that front, leaving fans eagerly awaiting any updates.

Nintendo Alarmo Sold Out A Day After its Announcement

The demand for Alarmo was evident right after its initial announcement on October 9, 2024. In Japan, sales were so high that Nintendo had to suspend them and switch to a lottery system exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to manage the overwhelming interest.

"We have received a large number of orders for the Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo, which was released on October 9th, so we are currently suspending sales of the product on the My Nintendo Store. In response to this, we are currently preparing to change the sales method at My Nintendo Store to a lottery sale for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, so please wait for a while. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to our customers. Furthermore, we will continue to produce the products in order to deliver them to as many customers as possible."

In New York City, Alarmo also sold out on the same day, though without a lottery system in place. Customers were informed that they would be updated once more stock was available.

Nintendo Alarmo Features

Launched in 2024, Alarmo brings the charm of Nintendo's iconic games into your morning routine. With sound effects from popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon 3, Alarmo offers an immersive wake-up experience. You can select from 42 scenes from these games, with more to come via free updates, including scenes from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

When you set an alarm, a character from your chosen scene will appear on the clock's screen. As the alarm sounds, the character will rise and emit a gentle sound. Soon after, a visitor will appear, and you can wave your hand or move to quiet the alarm. If you linger in bed, a more insistent visitor will join, and the sound will grow louder until you get up, all thanks to Alarmo’s motion sensor technology.

Alarmo also enhances your bedroom ambiance with hourly chimes and Sleep Sounds themed to your selected scene. It even tracks your sleep patterns, recording your time in bed and movement during sleep.

For shared sleeping spaces, Nintendo recommends setting Alarmo to Button Mode to avoid disturbing others. Originally requiring a Nintendo Online membership, this restriction will be lifted with the expanded release in March 2025, making Alarmo more accessible to everyone.
