Nintendo: Switch 2 Supply Limited in US
Nintendo has finally issued a long-anticipated warning to its U.S. fans about potential delays in release-day delivery for the Switch 2, following similar concerns about meeting demand in Japan.
The company posted an update on its website, cautioning those who registered interest in purchasing a Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the June 5 launch date cannot be guaranteed.
Consequently, invitation emails might be sent after the console's official release. However, Nintendo has assured customers that their shipping date will be confirmed at the time of purchase.
"We appreciate everyone who has already registered their interest in buying from the My Nintendo Store," the company stated.
"The excitement for Nintendo Switch 2 is incredible! Due to overwhelming demand, we are working hard to fulfill orders as stock becomes available, but we cannot promise delivery by June 5. Your invitation might arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launches. Your shipping date will be confirmed once you complete your purchase."
Nintendo is now suggesting that consumers might have better luck securing a Switch 2 at launch by pre-ordering through third-party retailers — a troubling recommendation given that the console has already sold out following the start of pre-orders.
"To improve your chances of getting a Nintendo Switch 2 system on launch day, please check with our participating retail partners listed above," the statement advised, pointing to a GameStop link (note: the Switch 2 is currently sold out at GameStop).
"If you prefer to wait for your invitation from the My Nintendo Store, no further action is needed after you have registered your interest."

The combination of widespread pre-order difficulties on April 24 and this official warning from Nintendo suggests the next-generation console will be extremely challenging to purchase, at least around the launch period.
Earlier this week, Nintendo alerted its Japanese customers that a "significant" number of them would be unable to pre-order the Switch 2 directly from the company.
In a statement shared on X / Twitter, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the company received 2.2 million pre-order applications in Japan alone through the My Nintendo Store. This "extremely high number of applications... far surpasses our expectations and the quantity of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles we can deliver from the My Nintendo Store on June 5," Furukawa explained.
According to a FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first round of invitations for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will begin on May 8, 2025. Subsequent rounds of invitation emails will be sent "periodically" until the store opens for everyone.
The initial invitation emails will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to "eligible registrants who meet the priority criteria." Recipients will then have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to finalize their purchase.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:
You must be the original purchaser of a Nintendo Switch Online membership, have maintained a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months, and have opted in to share gameplay data with at least 50 total hours of gameplay.
Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders would start in the U.S. on April 24, 2025, with the original $449.99 price and June 5 launch date remaining unchanged. The company also confirmed that the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle would stay at $499.99, and the launch prices for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) would not change. However, Nintendo increased the prices of some Switch 2 accessories due to ongoing tariff issues.
Nintendo initially planned to open pre-orders on April 9 but decided to postpone them to "evaluate the potential effects of tariffs and changing market conditions."
