During the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly their entire catalog from the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, some games are set to receive special "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring enhanced gameplay and exclusive features. Among the highlighted titles are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each of these upgraded games comes with unique enhancements. The showcase began with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces the "Jamboree TV" upgrade. This includes innovative features like mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay integrated with a new camera accessory.

Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were showcased, boasting improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, a new service called Zelda Notes on the Nintendo Switch Online app will provide voice guidance for finding Shrines and Koroks, along with the ability to share creations from Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, alongside upgraded graphics and framerates.

Newly announced titles Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also getting enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature better resolution and framerates.

These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby to enjoy the enhanced features on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The presentation also revealed several third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7 with mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will include exclusive game modes.

The buzz about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week when a small footnote on a new webpage mentioned these games in relation to the Virtual Game Card system, noting that they cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via this method.
