"Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Affects Canada Due to Tariffs"

Author : Blake Apr 23,2025

Gamers were left reeling last week when the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "we'll let you know later" status. This change came in the wake of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused turmoil in financial markets and affected the gaming industry across borders. Nintendo Canada has also confirmed that preorders in their region are facing similar delays, dashing hopes of securing a console through cross-border purchases.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, in order to synchronize with the timing of pre-orders to be announced in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will share updated information in due course. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will provide an updated timeline at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains firm.

While the original pre-order date was set for tomorrow, there's still no clarity on when eager fans can start refreshing their browsers and verifying their payment details, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced $449.99.

In other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun in the UK, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have quickly moved to eBay, listing pre-orders for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
