"Nintendo Confirms 60-Minute Switch 2 Direct"
The upcoming Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2 is set to be an extensive showcase, lasting approximately 60 minutes. This extended duration hints at a packed agenda for what is one of the most eagerly awaited presentations in the gaming world.
Scheduled for April 2, 2025, at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST, this Direct will offer a "closer look" at the Switch 2, following its brief initial reveal earlier in the year. That earlier glimpse showcased the Switch 2's design, hinted at a potential Mario Kart 9, and introduced a novel 'mouse' mode for the new Joy-Con controllers.
While the initial reveal sparked interest, several mysteries remain unsolved, such as the function of the new Joy-Con 'C' button, the console's power capabilities, and the purpose of its new ports.Fans are hopeful that the Nintendo Direct will unveil the full lineup of games launching with the Switch 2, along with a specific release date anticipated sometime between June and September 2025. There's also anticipation around the announcement of the Switch 2's price, which experts estimate might be around $400.
As anticipation builds, a clearer picture of the Switch 2's gaming prospects is emerging. Rumors suggest a robust list of third-party titles heading to the platform. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis expressed intrigue about the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode. French gaming company Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed they have games prepared for the Switch 2. Additionally, the much-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is rumored to be part of the Switch 2's lineup, and EA has hinted that Madden, FC, and The Sims could be well-suited for the new console.
Last week's Nintendo Direct also introduced a new feature called Virtual Game Cards, which allows for game sharing between systems. This announcement has raised further questions about the Switch 2, particularly due to a footnote on an official Nintendo webpage.Nintendo has also confirmed a Nintendo Treehouse: Live event for the Switch 2, featuring hands-on gameplay demonstrations. This event will take place on April 3 and April 4 at 7am PT each day.
