Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, Terminated After One-Year Launch
Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline on October 21st, 2024.
The reasons behind the closure remain undisclosed, though NetherRealm's recent disbanding of its mobile games division – responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice – suggests a potential shift in company strategy.
The status of in-game purchases is currently unclear. While Warner Bros. and NetherRealm haven't commented on refunds for spent currency or items, they promise further updates soon. Follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for the latest information.
Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, this action-adventure RPG blended intense combat with a cinematic narrative, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. Players teamed up with Raiden to thwart the Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
