"Moon Knight to Return, No Season 2 Planned, Says Marvel Exec"
Marvel enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the return of Moon Knight to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) should brace for a shift in plans. While Oscar Isaac's portrayal of Moon Knight has left fans wanting more, a second season of the Disney+ series seems unlikely.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, clarified that although there are future plans for Moon Knight within the MCU, these won't materialize as a continuation of the original series. This change in direction stems from a broader strategic pivot at Marvel Television since the release of Moon Knight in 2022.
Previously, Marvel's approach involved using TV shows to introduce characters who would later be integrated into other MCU projects. A prime example of this strategy was the introduction of Kamala Khan via the Ms. Marvel series before her role in The Marvels. However, Marvel Television is now shifting towards a more traditional television model, focusing on annual releases of standalone shows.
Winderbaum elaborated on this change, stating, "So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future. And moving forward our priorities have shifted. We’re making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television. I would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road."
While fans have seen Isaac reprise his role as Moon Knight in the animated series Marvel's What If...?, there's currently no news on his return in a live-action format.
Looking ahead, Marvel's confirmed upcoming TV shows on Disney+ include "Daredevil: Born Again" in March, "Ironheart" in June, "Eyes of Wakanda" in August, "Marvel Zombies" in October, and "Wonder Man" in December. Meanwhile, Marvel Television recently paused development on three projects: "Nova," "Strange Academy," and "Terror, Inc." However, Winderbaum hinted at exciting possibilities, including the potential reunion of the street-level heroes from "Daredevil," "Luke Cage," "Jessica Jones," and "Iron Fist," collectively known as The Defenders.
